Salted Caramel BarsIt’s no secret that I shy away from baking and that I’m more comfortable in the savory end of the kitchen but once in a while I’ll break out and try something for fun. Superbowl weekend seemed like a good time since we had great friends coming over. There is kind of an overload of salty sweet stuff out there nowadays but this is nice and simple with great results. You don’t need much on-hand other than thinking ahead about the salted caramel sauce itself. Oreo Brownie CupcakesI don’t post a bunch of baked goods to the site as I’m not much of a baker.  That said, the recent plateau of 40,000 visitors to this site (thank you to all of you) calls for celebration and a celebration needs dessert! Don’t let the relative ease of this deter you, these things are seriously yummy and easy to make in quantity for a party or just a few for the family.  I know just writing this that I’m going to crave them all over again today. Peanut Butter Cup Brownies

Lavender-Honey Ice Cream

Some back story is needed here.  A few years ago when Katie and I got married we were gifted with a certificate at a store in Corvallis, Oregon called The Inkwell Homestore .  Now, here’s the problem…I could spend thousands of dollars in this store without trying real hard, so this generous gift presented a challenge.  Furniture, home furnishings and an awesome high end kitchen wares section.  We looked at stock pots, grill pans, a little of everything, then we came across the perfect solution…an ICE CREAM MAKER!

Fast forward two years.  We were over at our best friends, the Sheddens house, doing a little hedge trimming at their new home to help out and literally almost tripped over a large lavender plant that was at a perfect time to harvest.  I mentioned to Kelli that she ought to harvest some for cooking.  The next weekend she surprised me with a large bag of fresh lavender blossoms.
